Très chic! That's simply the best way to describe Cityline Paris bigleaf hydrangea. Well, perhaps magnifique as well, as it truly is magnificent: one of the smallest and most compact of all bigleaf hydrangeas, it also boasts jaw-dropping color. In fact, it's the closest to red of any bigleaf hydrangea. The red is so saturated and intense that it won't turn purple or blue, even if conditions exist for it do so, making it the ideal choice for those who absolutely positively want a pink/red hydrangea. It never outgrows its space, so never needs pruning and you never need to sacrifice blooms to control its size. Glossy foliage resists disease so it always looks beautiful.

What makes Cityline Paris different than other bigleaf hydrangeas?

  • Color: the deep pink flowers are the closest to red of any bigleaf hydrangea
  • Size: super dwarf and compact, fits anywhere and doesn't need pruning

Details:
Name:
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Paris Rapa' USPP 10,906
Hardiness: USDA zones 5-9
Height x width: 1-2'
Light: Full to part sun
Soil: Evenly moist but well-drained soils are best. A 2-3" layer of shredded bark mulch is recommended in all areas, all year round.
Pruning: Blooms on old wood; do not trim or cut back, but dead wood may be removed in early spring
Water: Average to high water needs. Though big leaf hydrangeas cannot grow in wet soils, they can become drought stressed readily and should be watered regularly. Plants in full sun and/or warmer climates will need more water than those in less sun and/or cooler areas.
Fertilizer: Fertilize once in early spring with a rose fertilizer if desired.
Bloom time: Early to mid summer.
Bloom color: Dark pink red. Cityline Paris hydrangea will not turn blue, even if conditions are right for blue color to develop. At most, the centers of the florets take on a purple hue.
Uses: A classic choice for including in gardens and landscaping, it also makes a nice choice for low hedges and containers. Cityline Paris also makes a nice container plant.
