This hydrangea is hot off the press and ready for your garden! Let’s Dance Hot Stepper™ is the newest bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla × serrata) from Proven Winners ColorChoice shrubs, featuring massive, gorgeous pink blooms in a compact habit. This hydrangea is also exceptionally cold-tolerant, reliably returning year after year even after the frigid winters in zone 4. The amazing flower coverage, tidy habit, and durability will make this hydrangea a staple in your garden hedge or patio container.
Details:
Name: Hydrangea macrophylla x serrata 'SMNHSC' ppaf, cbraf
Hardiness: USDA zones 4-9
Height x width: 3-4’ tall x 3’ wide.
Light: Full sun (6 hours sun) to part sun (4-6 hours sun).
Soil: Evenly moist but well-drained soils are best. A 2-3" layer of shredded bark mulch is recommended in all areas, all year round.
Pruning: Blooms on old and new wood; do not trim or cut back, but dead wood may be removed in early spring
Water: Average to high water needs. Though big leaf hydrangeas cannot grow in wet soils, they can become drought-stressed readily and should be watered regularly. Plants in full sun and/or warmer climates will need more water than those in less sun and/or cooler areas.
Fertilizer: Fertilize once in early spring with a rose fertilizer if desired.
Bloom time: Midsummer through fall.
Bloom color: Flower color depends on soil pH; blooms will be a rich purple in acidic conditions and a bright, rich pink in neutral to alkaline sites.
Uses: A classic choice for including in gardens and landscaping, it also makes a nice choice for low hedges and containers.
