Endless Summer® BloomStruck® Bigleaf Hydrangea

Endless Summer® BloomStruck® Bigleaf Hydrangea

The heir apparent to The Original Endless Summer hydrangea, Bloomstruck bigleaf hydrangea boasts several improvements. You'll notice the color first: deep, pure violet-purple or pink, depending on the soil pH. Then you'll notice the stems, far stronger than the original and boasting a cool red hue that makes the plant colorful even when it's not in bloom! Enjoy months of flowers on a high-performance hydrangea.

What makes Endless Summer BloomStruck different from other bigleaf hydrangeas?

  • Red stems provide color even when not in bloom

Details:
Name:
Hydrangea macrophylla 'PIIHM-II' PP25,566
Hardiness: USDA zones 4-9
Height x width: 3-4' x 4-5'
Light: Full to part sun
Soil: Evenly moist but well-drained soils are best. A 2-3" layer of shredded bark mulch is recommended in all areas, all year round.
Pruning: Blooms on old and new wood; do not trim or cut back, but dead wood may be removed in early spring
Water: Average to high water needs. Though big leaf hydrangeas cannot grow in wet soils, they can become drought stressed readily and should be watered regularly. Plants in full sun and/or warmer climates will need more water than those in less sun and/or cooler areas.
Fertilizer: Fertilize once in early spring with a rose fertilizer if desired.
Bloom time: Midsummer through fall.
Bloom color: Flower color depends on soil pH; blooms will be a rich purple in acidic conditions and a bright, rich pink in neutral to alkaline sites.
Uses: A classic choice for including in gardens and landscaping, it also makes a nice choice for low hedges and containers.
