Lime Rickey® Smooth Hydrangea - DISCONTINUED

Looking for a truly one-of-a-kind native hydrangea? Order up a refreshing Lime Rickey! This smooth hydrangea from Proven Winners has very large disc-shaped blooms made up of florets that look like swirling marbelized jade, each one graced with a crown of pink pollen. Plus, the large flowers are held up on some of the sturdiest stems you'll ever see on a Hydrangea arborescens, aka 'Annabelle'-type hydrangea. We have personally seen a Lime Rickey plant get pelted with heavy summer rain and come out on the other side completely unscathed. It creates a cool, dreamy feature in your landscape or garden.

What makes Lime Rickey different from other smooth hydrangeas?

  • Large green disk-shaped flowers combine painterly coloration and dramatic presence
  • Some of the strongest stems you'll find in this type of hydrangea - totally unfazed by heavy rains!

Details:
Name:
Hydrangea arborescens 'SMNHALR' pp#28,858, cbr#5627
Hardiness: USDA zones 3-8
Height + width: 4-5'
Light: Full to part sun
Soil: Any well-drained soil will do. Though dry conditions are unlikely to harm an established plant, prolonged drought will severely limit floral life.
Pruning: Blooms on new wood; prune back by one-third in late winter/early spring for better habit and a slight improvement in stem strength.
Water: Average water needs. Does not tolerate wet conditions.
Fertilizer: Fertilize once in early spring with a rose fertilizer if desired.
Bloom time: Early summer
Bloom color: Green, with pink pollen when they are freshly opened.
Uses: Lime Rickey is a spectacular choice for landscaping, excelling in stem strength, flower production, and good looks. It can readily be incorporated into hedges, mass planting, and foundation plantings, as well as planted as a focal point in a flower garden. Very nice in woodland gardens as well.
